Install Runway
Runway is not notarized by Apple yet, so macOS asks you to confirm the first time you open it. It takes one extra step, once.
macOS
- Download Runway for Apple Silicon (M1 and newer) or for Intel Macs.
- Open the
.dmgand drag Runway to Applications. - Open Runway from Applications. macOS says it cannot verify the developer. Click Done (or Cancel).
- Open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll down to the message about Runway and click Open Anyway. Confirm with your password.
On macOS 14 and earlier you can instead right-click Runway in Applications and choose Open.
Prefer the terminal? This removes the download flag from Runway only:
xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Runway.app
Windows
Download the installer. If SmartScreen shows "Windows protected your PC", click More info → Run anyway.
Linux
- AppImage: run
chmod +x Runway-Linux-x86_64.AppImage, then open it. - .deb for Debian and Ubuntu, or .rpm for Fedora.
Why the warning?
Apple charges a yearly fee to notarize apps. Runway is a small independent tool; notarization is planned once sales cover it. The app runs entirely on your computer and only contacts our server to activate a license.
